These weekly sessions offer high-level instruction in a supportive, safe environment for students at all levels of experience. Each workshop includes a focus on the process of writing (we believe that good process makes for a better product) and on imparting the skills that make each writer the best they can be. We emphasize respect for the individual voice, and work with each writer to nurture his or her particular talent. Perhaps most importantly, the workshops become a community of peers in which a writer can interact with others who are attempting a similar endeavor, wrestling with the same problems. Creativity does not always grow best in isolation!

Some workshops are time-limited (ten weeks, twenty weeks, etc.) we charge a flat fee for these. Intermediate- to advanced-level workshops are ongoing, so that writers can settle into working on longer projects and form a community in which there is continuity. Participants pay on a monthly basis.

Through my participation in The Art of Prose Workshop I have been able to cultivate my writing process in a manner that involves deep listening. I have developed the ability to listen to the stories, characters, and the environments that want to be written. I have discovered the voices of my writing and have learned to trust their direction. Though I have surrendered to the task of multiple revisions, I have gained the insight to attend to those stories that seek my attention.
